Benefits of TCM

Many people are aware of the benefits of using acupuncture for treating pain, but TCM is useful in treating a range of conditions, including hormone imbalance, diabetes, fertility, menopause, cold and flu, hay fever, IBS, skin conditions, anxiety, depression, recurrent infections, constipation, insomnia, compromised immunity, menstrual disorders and behavioural issues. Together with herbs, diet and lifestyle, the aim of TCM is to allow the body to reclaim and maintain balance.

A Little About Me

I began my studies in the scientific field of biochemistry and molecular genetics. After working in research for three years I travelled extensively throughout Asia enjoying the varying cultures of this area.  On returning to Science I was discouraged by the compartmentalised view and turned more to the Eastern view of the body and its interactions with the environment. TCM looks at each individual, including diet and lifestyle, with the ultimate goal of balance throughout.

So what type of treatment can you expect to receive from me?

The doctrine of TCM encompasses health and philosophy, so in a one hour session, treatments will combine my skills in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine together.    You can choose to receive one and not the other; however, I recommend that both together can only bring expedited balance to your body.

My Key Message

Don’t ignore your body! The longer something goes unaddressed, the harder it is to treat and therefore the TCM emphasis is on prevention first. Our modern lifestyle contributes to premature aging and chronic degenerative illness however we can take control of our own bodies. By accepting responsibility for our heath, we can restore harmony within and around us and although we may feel frustrated by the state of the world, we are in control of our health and wellbeing.   My message - monitor your digestion. It is said that with a healthy appetite, regular bowel movements and regular sleep, that you’re providing a solid basis for health.

More About Acupuncture:

Acupuncture is one branch of the traditional Chinese medical system. This enduring perspective on health is one of balance.  Integral to this concept of energetic balance is the meridian system, a network of channels or pathways through the body.

This meridian system communicates between all internal and external structures of the body,  and indeed between our bodies and environment. The places where meridians open on the bodies surface are acupuncture points.

So, the meridians are implicit in maintaining health, reflect what’s going on inside our bodies and can be used to remedy our ills.

Acupuncture then is the placement of needles into these points to achieve this healthy balance. Acupuncture can therefore be used in most health concerns, being particularly useful in; musculo-skeletal injuries, digestive problems, headaches, respiratory and skin conditions, gynealological and reproductive issues, to name a few.

Stimulation of the points by acupuncture should not be too painful to be effective, so thin needles and gentle techniques are the most efficacious and relaxing.
